Elder's Meditation of the Day September 2
When we pray one prayer should be effective enough. Asking over and over is possibly not a good thing because it does not allow the first prayer to work in a good way. Once should be more than enough and Creator hears our every word. Once the prayer is spoken it is left to the Spirit world and nothing more need be said. Creator will either answer it by saying he will do it now, or we should wait a little or we really do not need it. Repetition slows the process because of how many words are changed every time we pray.

Elder's Meditation of the Day September 4
To give up a meal might not be a sacrifice unless it is something very special that one really likes then maybe it is a sacrifice. But it may not mean leaving it alone but making a plate and giving it to someone else. Giving our selves at Sundance and other places may not be sacrifice either but a good thing from Creators guidance. Sacrifice is the total feeling of a substantial gain being given up and walking away from it. This could be a material, or Spiritual test and so we will struggle with it till we make a decision. "Then may we make the correct one." So if a person has passed over and we know the protocol to release the spirit do we walk away because we have other commitments or do we stay and take charge and do the prayers and songs necessary? My choice would be to take care of business then and there because the living can always reschedule where the deceased cannot.

Elder's Meditation of the Day September 5
The fact of our word being good as gold must have originated somewhere a long time ago. It is not like paper money or monopoly money. Our word has some sort of value to others and it is important to keep our word when we make a commitment. This shows our people who we are and then they cannot judge us by gossip or hearsay. It has to be a way of life. This teaches our children that we stand by and honor the things we do and what we say we are going to do. "We Must Keep Our word".

We can have this self love and it is not a bad thing. We must always be conscience of not over loving ones self though because this can be very bad. Self love is the light that can be generated to others only when one has it to give. In order to give it you must have it first. Then all things come into place.

Grandpa always said; "The more you know the more you are worth, but one does not always acquire knowledge from books, One must have hands on knowledge in order to know what they are talking about". Experience is the best teacher of all. We must show by doing and getting others to participate. If some choose to turn their backs then our efforts are not all bad because some will learn and some will not! The spiritual walk is not for everyone.

Mother and Grandmother used to say "You can't take all your riches with you when you die so enjoy it while you are alive. Give things to less fortunate and do not be a greedy man". Hoarding things is not very Spiritual instead it shows a persons heart still hanging on to the greed they learned as a child. Many collect items believing they have something of rarity but in reality they leave it sit and do not use it. Why spend money on things you cannot or will not use and just allow them to take up space, instead of helping others who are in need? I am just as guilty on some things, but our ancestral heritage and culture are worth collecting so future generations can see.

The greatest balance is Nature its self. My Grandpa always said that a person should pay attention to the animals and they would be able to learn many things. Man does not do this because if Man did this our world would not be in as bad of shape as it is today. It is like some people do not hold any respect for life at all. Greed takes its toll and money is the ruin of society. Social structures have changed and now money is God. Look at the development going on all over. Destroying Forests, trash along the streets, Dirty diapers in parking lots. People are not in balance. We must continue to pray for them and the eventual balance again of the Earth. But many insects and species have been driven into extinction because of mans stupidity and ignorance. Man does it to his own kind too. Where is the balance?

In our day taking time out to pray is not a bad thing and we should always find time to do it. The old ones probably did it quite a few time daily. This does not mean we have to cease all we are doing for an hour but just a couple minutes is all that is needed. Sometimes just the simple phrase "Thank you Creator" is all that is needed. This lets Creator know we are letting him work in our lives.

The old ones placed a walk before us yet others seem to believe they know and can do better than The old ones. This is why there is so much dissension and greed. Some do not want to admit they are wrong and continue to cut down others so they can look big and important; "The Old one has shown us this is not the way to walk". If we are so much smarter and higher up on the totem pole then why can't we solve all the worldly troubles with a swipe of our hand? It is because Creator did not give us that authority to have powers or judge others like we are some sort of God.

If you pass anger, anger will be given back, If you pass Love, Love will be given back. The choice is ours as to what we want to give out. I prefer to Love all people but then again not all people will give Love back it is just human nature. So we must do what we feel from our hearts not our minds. Maybe that other person has had a bad day and it takes just one person to allow them as a friend. Maybe that other person is contemplating suicide, How would we feel if we did not make effort to treat that other human being good?

Elder's Meditation of the Day September 21
In my personal days I have some people who try to cause trouble and speak about how much better they are than me but I must pray for those with sickness in their minds. This kind of attitude was taught to them and it certainly is not walking our Traditional road or teachings. Gossip is a split tongue and fangs worse than a rattlesnake the venom spread has actually caused people to commit suicide. This is not because the person was weak minded but because the person could not deal with such animosity anymore and gave up. We must be strong in our walk and constantly rely on Creator and the Ancestors to guide us through the storms. We must not allow another person to push us over the edge, because that would give them satisfaction in thinking they did something good..

Elder's Meditation of the Day September 23
At certain spiritual events or happenings, it is possible for the spirits to come. Sometimes these spirits look like sparkles of light, sometimes you can feel them, sometimes they will look like live human beings. The spirits always come for a reason. When we deal with the spirit world, we need to be patient. The Great Spirit will tell us the meaning of these happenings when ready. Great Spirit, let me be aware of Your presence. The Spirit world has more say than what some humans believe they can have. To dictate to another how to pray,when to pray or where to pray is against Creators logic. Daily we need to turn it all over to Creator and the Spirit world so they can perform the magic needed to help us in our walk. Please do not ever try to control another human being,this is not a good thing. We all have a bad enough time trying to control our own self.

To walk the Red road in a good way one does not drink alcohol or partake in drugs. This is like playing Roulette with a gun and one bullet. Often I hear people speak about what mixed drink they like and then they come to ceremony out of balance. Alcohol and Drugs keep us off balance and not able to function properly, and causes interference of well being with Creator and Self.

Elder's Meditation of the Day September 25

A few years ago I was walking a river bottom in Salamonie Resevoir located in North eastern Indiana. I had just picked up a few raven feathers and walked a
few steps when a voice called my name. I looked around but there was no one in site so I just shrugged my shoulders and kept walking. The voice called me again and I was starting to feel a bit uneasy so I attempted to walk back and see where the voice was coming from but thought it was on top of the hill. I could not find it so I decided to go up the hill to the top which was a good 80 feet up .I got up there and walked
back the direction I was walking when I heard the voice and all of a sudden the voice called me again! I looked to my right and there stood an old cedar tree standing at least a hundred foot tall. I walked over to it and the tree told me to look at it so I did.The tree then asked me what did I see and I explained that I saw silver skin, many names carved in it, broken branch stubs and no green life for at least 60 feet up. The tree then told me to take a branch so I picked on off the ground and the tree said "No I want you to take one from me". I looked and there was one about
seven feet off the ground so I jumped and caught hold of it and broke it off. The tree then asked me to look closely at the branch. I looked and the tree asked me what did I see. I replied I seen another piece of wood all silver and old which had been weathered and beaten to no end and the center was cedar red. The tree said that was very good and to pay close attention to what it was about to tell me. These are the words from the Cedar tree as it was speaking to me." I may be old, cut up, beaten, weathered and many times my arms broken but all in all you must always remember we are all red on the inside.
