Elder's Meditation of the Day February 1
Msit Nókmaq/All My Relations,
When we read something it is always good to not believe it all until we investigate it. Often things are written as opinions of others and not completely of truth. We must seek that truth so we do not end up treating another person nasty because of gossip or written mis-information. In order to have freedom and peace of mind one must allow others the right to live their lives accordingly instead of people trying to control them. Controlling comes in a few disguises.
PRIDE; excessive belief in one's own abilities, that interferes with the individual's recognition of the grace of Creator. Pride is also known as Vanity.
ENVY; the desire for others' traits, status, abilities, or situation.
GLUTTONY; an inordinate desire to consume more than that which one requires.
LUST; an inordinate craving for the pleasures of the body.
ANGER; manifested in the individual who spurns love and opts instead for fury. It is also known as Wrath.
GREED; the desire for material wealth or gain, ignoring the realm of the spiritual. It is also called Avarice or Covetousness.
SLOTH; the avoidance of physical or spiritual work.
What am I doing this day to not slide into the trap?

Many times we speak of the Great Hoop of life. This does not entail one thing but it entails many things in our daily life journey. We must look to Creator and the Medicine Circle of the four directions in order to find answers. Our life circle is " We are born from an earth and Spiritual seed, We grow, We die and return to where we came from in the earth, But all through the journey we are learning and sharing information to help each other. Some will accept and others will not so it is the way Creator wants it at that time in the wheel.

Elder's Meditation of the Day February 3
Msit Nókmaq/All My Relations,
Balance: We stand with one leg on each side of a teeter totter board all day long and do our best to stay in the middle but sometimes we seem to lean one way or another and set it off balance. We then try to get things back in balance with prayer. It sometimes is a struggle but we actually can do it if we take the first step, then the next, the next, and the next placing one foot in front of the other without tripping. Sometimes it seems like there is no tomorrow yet if we take things One day at a time ,it will all fall into place. Just for today do I need to drink or drug? The answer lays with just how important you want this day to be. Can I re-live yesterday? " No ! " Am I in tomorrow yet? " No!" That means I must stay focused to live in this day as best as I can.

We say a right time and right place? How can there be if we do not wish to give things a chance? Mans impatience is truly astounding. You do not believe it? Try standing in a busy store and watch people, It is like a lottery when a cash register opens up. Everyone shuffles to see who gets there first. Highway driving ? Every ones in the fast lane for passing but all actually drive no faster than the car in front of them. How can we have a right time and right place if we are always in such a hurry to not take time to remain in one place for very long?

When a person offers us a gift we often say " That wasn't necessary" or some shy group of words but we fail to realize the person gifting us is doing it most likely from their heart. We must learn to receive with Honor and give with Honor. Our ways have always shown us to give and when we think the giving is done give more. This keeps us from self.

Elder's Meditation of the Day February 6

We often go to Pow Wows and see giveaways, but how many people actually realize the significance of it? We are supposed to do things from the heart and gifting is one of those things that is important. Many just see a give away as some one who has placed some items on a blanket for others but do they realize what went into the preparation of placing the items on that blanket? Prayers, Thank you to the Manitous, emotional highs and lows plus a multitude of other feelings. Please remember when you take a gift from the blanket you are honoring the one who gives away. Creator has a blanket giveaway everyday. It is up to us which wonderful gift we choose to take from the blanket. Which one will I pick today?

How much do you want to help mankind? Are you willing to make sacrifices? Can you live outside of the material world? Answering yes to the three questions makes a commitment for life. This commitment starts daily with Prayer and through the day, prayer is done while working playing or whatever you are doing. We must be an open channel for Creator to work in and through us. This helps us to be more sensitive and rational.

When we decide that we want something or we attack another, Is it for the good of the people and Creators will or is it for the self righteousness of ones own self will? Protecting our lands, water, and food sources are vital for our existence. When those who are senseless because they have tasted the worthless paper called money,are like rabid animals because the money eats at their brains. Where does it stop? Do we keep allowing the government to dictate to us what is good for us or do we take back our own lives in fear of being incarcerated and referred to as terrorists? Being clean and sober gives us the opportunity to be able to think clearly and rationalize. When we were intoxicated we were exactly where our government wanted us so we would not see their trickery of smoke and mirrors. The time has come forth to make our own destiny and not allow others to dictate to us. " HOKA HEY" means Today is a good day to die, But every day is a good day to die.

When we look into a clear sky after dark we can see millions of lights glimmering. Maybe we can visualize this as being humans on the earth. Then we can look to see we are so small in such a Great Hoop called Life. Where did we come from? Where are we going? We do know something Greater made it all and put it into motion. The same is in motion when we want to hurry things. What many fail to see is when we wish to hurry the day up at work we are choosing to make our life a little bit shorter. We should do all we can in a day to make certain our life is long lived and many good things have been provided for others. We are supposed to give more than take but society has changed that progressively. What part in this day will I do to strive for change? Staying drug and alcohol free is a major accomplishment of change.

If we truly believe in our walk then all of this earth is Sacred not certain allocated places. Where Our Ancestors are buried is ground that should be considered Higher ground but with all the major expansion in cities now for population many of the Ancestors are being disturbed. The Whiteman does not wake his grandparents from sleep but will wake the Indian peoples Grandparents and then place them in scientific laboratories for studies. What is there to know about us since they already have hundred's of thousands of us in their black rooms in shoe boxes? We must learn to pray for those who have problems with their minds and do bad things. The place you live is Sacred because Creator made all the material to build it and the earth it sits upon.

It is too bad Tecumseh never knew what a Chameleon was. But in reality he felt the connection from the Great Spirit. The vision of a Nation one day being of all people and considered the Rainbow Nation. I do not believe he was referring to Jessie Jacksons rainbow or the Gay communities Rainbow. Tecumseh was referring to ALL people as the RAINBOW. The Chameleon teaches us how to adapt just as many other creatures do. We should take time out to listen to our Elders and Respect them because they do have many good teachings.

Elder's Meditation of the Day February 12

In the past twenty years wages have not increased very much for many people. Companies want to pay less money and then divide profits with people who do not even do the footwork to keep the company going. It takes manpower not executives. How many executives can actually go into a facility and operate any machinery they supposedly own or hold stock in? People are being suppressed on a daily basis, not just Indian people but the circle is now coming back to the ones whose grandfathers stole our lands. Is the way of thinking here honorable? Is the idea of intimidating people a good way to live? The country's borders are open for immigrants to walk right in and steal jobs from the taxpayers of this land. Cities are now offering the illegals jobs without paying any taxes but someone has to foot the bill. It seems that our leadership is crumbling due to their greediness. We need to pray for their sick minds that they get back in focus instead of worry about how much money they can steal from the people. Creator has not walked out on us we shut him out by not doing his will instead of our own.

If we live our day with keeping it simple, then we have less stress and it helps us to not complicate things by wanting a drink, a drug, relationships or food to escape. We need to teach ourselves that we can exist without people, places, or things affecting our balance of our sobriety. Is it more important to have a relationship or have good sobriety? The things mentioned do interfere with our well being so we must be very careful how we travel those paths that we choose.

Some individuals seem to think everyone should stop on a dime when they speak. "I disagree" No man or woman on this earth is my ruler. Those who go about always demanding are most likely people who were deprived from any attention during their growing up years, so now they Demand it. They disrespect others and our families by causing so much hate and disrespect towards the Ancestors by always trying to justify their actions as being appropriate. The problem is they do not think before they do their bad work. Is this what Creator wants us to be doing? Did our Grandmothers and Grandfathers fight in vain because this generation has closed ears? What do you actually do for the people? Anything good or something bad? What part do I have in this?

Our women are special in many ways, they are like the earth as they give birth to the new born just like the fertilized seeds of the plants and animals of the earth. Our relationship is closer than you may think. It is our responsibility to take care of our place of dwelling and stop the pollution of our air, water and land. Many women stand up and protest the polluting actions now days and speak to the Governments about what harm it is doing to where we all live. Almost every food bought in stores now days are chemically enhanced and truthfully not very good for you to eat.

In Alcoholic Anonymous they have a prayer. "God Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can; and the Wisdom to know the difference." This was brought forth with the Spirituality of American Indians in mind and Creators Grace by the original founders of AA in Cleveland and Akron Ohio area. The Iroquois Confederacy is not very distant from the area It indulges upon the battle of good verses bad in ones self that Elders have spoke of for years.

All my relations is a term to connectedness but quite a few fail to realize it. The term is used quite loosely now days but some stand by what it means and they walk the walk and talk the talk 24/7/365 days a year. Their connection to all things are well known and versed. We kill mosquitoes and other insects because we seem to believe they are pests, We kill coyotes and other four leggeds because we build our homes in the areas where the four legged lived first then we seem to think we justify the killings because the four legged are pests. How is this that we can always justify our wrongs instead of taking responsibility for our insane and irresponsible actions.

We need to stop saying things unless we really mean it. To tell a person something then recant it is the same as Lying. So where is our connection when we do not speak the truth? Are we not to stay clean and sober from honesty? We learn to be honest to ourselves first then we share it with others. Do what you say and say what you do. Is this what I want or do I want to go back to the old days of my addictions?

We must teach our children the importance of being educated. Without it there is no real hope of accomplishment. Educating our children in the old ways is wonderful and respectful but we also need to educate them in the modern worlds ways to be capable of handling many various situations and doing it with strength of endurance, finesse and tact.

Listen to the birds and their music. No two sing the same song because they all are different. There may be some sounds that seem alike but if you listen carefully you will find them to be different. We humans are the same way. Each of us has our own song and each of us has our own walk in life.

Instead of nit picking today try to show more love and understanding towards others. Let's see if anything changes for the better, Constantly finding fault in others does not make us more perfect because all human beings have faults, some stand out more than others. I am just as guilty but I try on a daily basis to do better. It is hard at times when we meet with constant negativity but we pick up the pieces of the puzzle and go forward working to be more positive.

When we wake from our sleep we need to ask Creator to walk with us. If we do not then our day is usually crappy. But when we ask Creator our day is usually in better shape. We need to learn that every moment of our day is filled with lessons. If they seem bad Thank Creator for them too because we actually learn from them just as we do from the good days.

Elder's Meditation of the Day February 27
Msit Nókmaq/All My Relations,
There is nothing like sitting down to a dinner meal and hearing the Phrase "I hate that". My question is usually " Have you ever ate this before?". Nine time out of ten the response will be No. How can someone hate something they have never experienced or tasted? They hate it because of hearing others mouth off about it so then it becomes a part of their way by accepting the other peoples words as gospel. Such a sad shape this world is in due to that kind of behavior. One needs to know what they eat first before passing judgement of like or dislike just the same as knowing another human being.
Gitsch Manito-Creator,Wásóq-Spiritworld, Please help me to not look at something and dislike it without knowing the experience first. Help me to taste life as a daily plate of various food sources. Show me to not judge liver and human beings because I have not tried to be at one with them.

Elder's Meditation of the Day February 28
Msit Nókmaq/All My Relations,
Man has tried to control water only to fail. Many levees have been built and broken due to unseen flaws where water leaks through and washes the earth away to burst the levee then the land floods. So mans conquest to be Supreme ruler still continues yet he continually fails due to rebellion. For every positive there is a negative,for every negative there is a positive. The Asian people refer to it as a Yin Yang for many thousands of years, Our people here refer to it as "Balance". We need to find balance in our lives to remain alcohol and drug free.
Gitsch Manito-Creator,Wásóq-Spiritworld, Please help me to see that everything I do good has a reaction of something bad coming forth due to misinterpretation. I pray you could find mercy and help this to stop so that only goodness comes forth to help mankind. But if not I thank you for all my trials in my walk.
