Grandpa always spoke to me about listening and watching animals and I would learn. At first I thought he really lost his mind, but then the more I listened the more I understood. Other Elders spoke about the same thing, so I began to see that there was much truth in their words. Animals make specific sounds or movements to warn of nearby danger, they talk of weather and many other things. They show how the Sacred Circle works in relationship to the food chain and the relationship to human beings. "We all rely on each other"..

Walking through the woods we can find many trails and forks. We need to be careful when we chose a path in life, because it may bring us back to where we started. But if we end up where we started then apparently we come to believe we made the wrong deciscion or choice, But then again we may have made the correct choice because Creator always shows us the right path to walk but we must be willing to listen and pay attention to Creator in order for it to be successful, and we should always learn from them.

Elder's Meditation of the Day December 5
Msit Nókmaq/All My Relations,
Our Culture to us is not the kind for making cheese, eating beluga caviar, or attending operas. Culture to us is the definitive way we exist in surviving to keep our traditions alive and to raise and teach our children in the customary ways of the old ones. Without our Culture we are non existent. We need to stress to our children and grandchildren about the ways alcohol and drugs ruin our families and strip us from our culture.
Are we setting good examples for our children to follow or are we making sure we post photos of our drinking and partying all over the internet. People have their own stories to live but is it really necessary to display the illness and portray it as something so great? I never found it to be great in my latter days of drinking. I isolated myself just to avoid conflict. It is a slow self induced suicide killing the moral values of our culture.We have a decision not a choice to make!

Quite often we humans want to lead the pack but we fail to realize that there is only one leader called "Creator". Man has always been a selfish self serving animal. He comes up with things like religion to confuse and persuade people into believing he is entitled to possession of everything on earth and now in space, When in actuality it all belongs to Creator not us. Selfishness is taught and not inherent as some may want to believe. Give freely what has been gifted to you freely. Sobriety is a gift from Creator because he believes you are worth it. No human is better than another because in Creators eyes he is the daddy and we are his children. Jealousy, Greed, Anger, Envy, Sloth, Gluttony, Vanity. They should have no place in our daily personal lives. They can make us fall. Never be afraid to give yourself completely.

When we speak to women we should speak with respect. Yet there are some who for whatever reason or reasons push us to speak with no respect. They refuse to give respect and it is hard give respect back. This is where we must seek Creators guidance and help in stronger ways to have a better understanding. This also applies to the male gender. Give all people respect when you meet, if they have none to return then pray for them as you walk away.

Mankind needs to re-evaluate things if it is not too late to do so.

We have a common cause to fight and it is the oppressor who tries to rule us with iron hand and fear tactics. The same one whose great grandparents stole our sacred lands and tried to murder us so they could rule and destroy the land. We must seek prayer to help in this matter and strength to endure. "We must learn to stand strong, no matter what".

Finding the center of harmony is a difficult and on going journey. There are many obstacles in the path and we must learn how to deal with each situation accordingly. We must first call upon Creator to help us to decide what to do then go forward. Often this will take some time but we can take the first step. If we are drinking alcohol or abusing drugs We have to come to a realization that the world does not evolve around us but a Power greater than us. We must open our eyes and see the destruction we are causing. Until we can do that our imbalance will remain.

Women and Men are supposed to be equal yet some choose to make themselves superior over women by telling them when to pray, where to pray and how to pray, They also treat women and children like they were livestock. We should not be doing this. Is it right to tell people they are not allowed to pray because they are of different sex gender? Is it the way to chastise someone for praying? Never tell another how to pray or when to pray because people can pray anytime they feel the need. But do not fall into the mindset that just because you pray and believe that it entitles you to be nasty to others or be superior, because you are not! We all are Creators children and need to become closer to his ways and not our made up fantasy rules.

Where or when did we begin to think we were Masters? The thinking is definately a wrong thought. We are not Masters We are care takers of the earth and also we are supposed to be helping each other but we fail in that. Our walk should be more respectful but we often forget where we came from and allow the bad to guide us more than the good. We must work daily to change this improper way of thinking, then life will become a little easier to walk. Until then we will continue to have havoc and chaos among us.

The work of Indian commissions is to keep interest in the preservation of our Nations and cultural ways. Many of us have joined in allegiance with the organizations to Unite and seek the respect our people deserve. We must show that the old way of fighting is ineffective and we must deal differently today. The courts do work if we take time to learn their procedures and use the laws to work in our favor. But strength comes in numbers Unity becomes numbers. We should not have or allow one rule, one leader this is the whitemans way, Instead we should rely on our Councils and Elders.In other words we need to rely more on the peoples voices and not just one or two individuals.

The story about children learn by what they see and are taught is true. They will learn how adults deal with things and then decide what they will do when a situation or problem arises. Are we doing the right things in our lives? Are we teaching our children correctly or are they like livestock to us, or tax deductions to get big refund checks? Do we teach them to not abuse alcohol or drugs, or do we just not care? Hug your children, Love your children and no matter what be there for them even if they are disrespectful because one day they will realize their wrongs just as we have.

Some people have many inherent talents and some have only a few. This ranges from Artwork, to raising Zebras/ A to Z. Try and see what your talents are then practice them daily and work humbly to do the best you possibly can with them and the outcome will amaze you. But also work to help others achieve their talents too. Cooking supper at home is a talent, There are many things to consider to make a good meal, just like living one day at a time. Good recipies are keys to success without them things turn out bad. Having Patience, Caring, Loving, Understanding and Giving are also talents and recipies for daily living. If you feel you lack any talents it is suggested that we look up with open eyes and ask Creator to help us in the ways that can be done.

Many people use the term Mitauke Oyasin frequently but do they speak it in true meaning or has it become another phrase like Please and thank you. Are they actually realizing that ALL my Relations does not apply to the convenience of Indianess only when we go to pow wows or ceremonies. It should be a daily basis and it should be noted that this applies to everything in the universe not just humans. From the molten rock and the creepy crawlers under ground to the highest flying birds or creatures and the outer reaches of space above. We all are a part of a circle so vast it is hard to imagine just how big it really is. This relationship should override all conflict yet it does not! People get greedy and let ego interfere. If this comes forth then we must teach those how to seek Creators guidance and learn to pray.

We have things happen in our lives for reasons. In our youth many of our parents corrected us and taught us to do their way even if it was incorrect. We all learn by lesson, trial and error because we are not supposed to be like sheep, following the leader to slaughter. We decide for our own selves and have to live with what we decide right or wrong. We judge and we should not, yet it is human nature to do so because we have been taught how. Can it be undone? Honestly cannot say for sure but we can work at becoming better loving and caring human beings, instead of selfish self serving humans. What part am I in this great wheel of life?

We are shown how to do things, We are given tools to perform and to get the job done. But often we turn our backs and refuse to accept the learning and teachings, there by making us grow farther from our Cultural ways and practices. "WE MUST NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN".

Elder's Meditation of the Day December 25
On this day people around the world celebrate something called Christmas and many seem to have lost the way in the dark of what it means. They seem to think it was the Birth of Christ or the Day of Santa Klaus, Elves and reindeer presenting lots of presents that are here today and gone in five or ten minutes. The original day was a Pagan Holiday and "No such festival as Christmas was ever heard of until the THIRD century, and not until the FOURTH century was far advanced did it gain much observance. It is one day a year when people supposedly lay down arms and come to peace and Then tomorrow they are back at shooting and destroying each other. We all need to look to a higher Spiritual area where we can acquire the knowledge to see our wrongs and short comings and to quell our greed for people, places and things. Give Thanks to Creator for this day because he has allowed us one more day of life here on Earth.

An Elder once told me "If you ever get lost in the woods keep walking the same direction and you will eventually come to a road, Do not walk in the dark of night". This could apply to our daily learning process. Often we come to forks in the road and if we look at the wear on the road or path, we will see which has been the most traveled and may possibly lead to a main road. But the end result is that We must make the final deciscion or choice.

Elder's Meditation of the Day December 27
Msit Nókmaq/All My Relations,
We cannot get mixed up with straddling a barbed wire fence. Do we walk the side that feels most comfortable for us ? Or do we let Creator take full control and show us direction. Often it is hard to exist in the realms of the world. We adjust to the settings instead of just being true to our own self. This apparently causes turmoil inside of us and we react in different ways. Many times feeling hurt and anger. We must not allow anger to rule us. Anger can cause us to drink or drug to have an attitude of " I'll show you" and that is dangerous to our well being. Let us stop, look , and pray for the help we need or Skepticism will make us fall. We have no control over persons, places or things, only our self.

Msit Nókmaq/All My Relations,
How many take time to actually look and pray at the four directions daily? Is there something lacking in your life? Maybe the time has come forth to change the bad things into good things. The fork is in the road and it is time to choose the correct one, But both paths in the fork are correct because whichever one you choose it will be correct to yourself. Seek out the Elders and learn while it is not too late.

When we listen to our inner self it is usually right. Some think it is conscience others refer to it as ancestors guiding us. Whatever it is we need to seek the assistance more often. Learning to meditate and pray helps us to be able to pay better attention to others when they speak. Watch the expressions of a blind person when you converse with one and you will see a person who is truly in Creators guidance, Children are in the same reality so it is important to listen to them because they are human beings not things we own.

Elder's Meditation of the Day December 30
Msit Nókmaq/All My Relations,
In everything we do let us try to always include asking Creator and the Ancestors to help us and to guide us. Lets take responsibility for our deeds even if they are wrong. This builds good character and teaches our children to become fully responsible and take pride in who they are. If we owe apologies then we need to get it done. Our criticizing others for what they do just causes more disappointment. We should pray for those who cause trouble and ask that their health, welfare and safety be protected.

Elder's Meditation of the Day December 31
In the past year we have seen many ups and downs and our struggles are still continuing. We have people who constantly strive to cause havoc and slow us down. It is truly no different today than it was a hundred years ago or before that. This can be proven by the Genocidal demands from the Great wonderful rulers in Washington D.C. making a law that the Native people must show proof of who we are , yet we are to accept their races without any proof. We must learn to walk forward and keep blinders on so we are focused and can make things happen for the good of our people. "We do not have a single appointed KING or QUEEN of the Indians and never will even though some may believe they have that right to sit on a throne". This is why we have formed councils to try and make good things come forth, but power trips and genocide of our own people is certainly not the way to walk, but some do commit it anyhow. We need to all look at the common causes and stop the immaturity of; he said, she said or I am not going there because "that person" is there. When people finally decide to grow up maybe we can get our rights recognized and the ancestors will be proud of who we really are striving to be. We must always include Creator in everything that we do on a daily basis. We must re teach our youth that Gangs,Drugs and Alcohol are not the way of our Ancestral path. Tomorrow will be the New Year for many so "Let's all strive to do better".
